Smorg Square was the Manhattan outpost of the Smorgasburg food market.  The design used shipping containers to house the pop-up food vendors.  These were angled to give each vendor their own space.  One of the containers was specially designed to function as a bar for the plaza.  The graphics were designed in house and were both a logo and way-finding tool.  They also became the starting point for the Smorg Fence workshop done with the Children’s Museum.

Overall, the design relied on inexpensive materials and prefab containers to create a dynamic and flexible space.  The southern portion of the site was left open to accommodate food trucks, events, or possible future expansion.  While it only lasted one summer, Smorg Square quickly became a popular lunchtime and after work destination.
