How can a store be more than a store?  That was the first question that we asked about this project.  The owner of Fortune Cookie Studio wanted a space that was not just to sell her products but also a place for the community to gather. This led to three significant design decisions.  First, we kept the center area clear of shelves or displays.  Second, we designed a modular bench that could be used for either gathering or be stacked and display items.  Third, we used intense neon coloring to draw people into the space  by creating a vinyl cut out of the Fortune Cookie Studio logo cat and designing a ceiling of connected neon cords.  This emphasizes the idea of a connected community.  The ceiling turned down into a  peg board system that was ideal for a flexible display system.  This combination of looking at both the retail and community aspects of the design created a composite space that flowed between store and gathering place.
