PublicSquare serves as the mobile threshold between private discourse and public action through three stages: Incubation, Oscillation & Presentation.

Incubation mode sets the stage for the inventive mingling of ethos, logos and pathos. In this mode, PublicSquare is a distraction free thought bunker.  Participants are encouraged to check their digital technology into custom designed Faraday boxes; and a protective field of white noise enables the reduction of external sound and the preservation of contextual aural inputs.

The process of oscillation will be neither seamless nor automatic. All must depart from the structure and powerful participants must take the initiative to turn a crank in unison. The cranking by an empowered few will make symbolically salient the invisible and unquestioned physical forces that subtend the normative practices of “democratic,” “meritocratic,” and “divine” nomination, ordination and representation.

In presentation mode, Public Square will stand 6 feet above the ground, and the panels that served as the white noise emitting sonic shield will now be amplifying speakers projecting the voices of orators.
