PROJECT

To Be Destroyed

LOCATION: Toronto, Ontario
CLIENT: MOCCA (Museum of Contemporary Canadian Art)
YEAR: 2014
TYPE: Exhibition
PHASE: Completed
SIZE: Urban
TEAM: at BKD

Instead of mega-museums growing into malls, art should spread through the city like a virus, infecting the communities it invades. It should leave a trail of culture and change behind it. Occupying buildings and creating permanent thresholds for viewing art, before moving on to new locations. Each space will offer new opportunities to re-imagine the narrative of viewing art based on specific relationships between the space, the city, and the art.

Rather than bloating into more of the generic spaces that globalization produces or leaving behind a community when more spaces are desired, a distributed approach allows for simultaneous, diverse manifestations and lasting community bonds.
