The steam coming out of a boat’s smokestack – ephemeral, translucent, ever changing and temporary – is the inspiration for our pavilion design. We would like to create a structural kit of parts, made out of light materials which have the ability to change according to the needs, yet iconic in its form that references Steamboats. PVC pipes and translucent fabric are used for the principal materials of the design. Bent PVC pipes create steam-like bowl shapes. Bending adds tension and strength for the structure, and repetition of the form creates three distinctive pavilion forms to accommodate various events throughout the site:

Pavilion 1 for Performance space/ Viewing

Pavilion 2- for Vendor and bourbon tasting

Pavilion 3- for Info Booth/ Exhibition space

Once the skeleton of the pavilion is created by PVC pipes, a stretched fabric will fill in-between to strengthen the overall stability of the structure as well as to create shade. The pavilions bring together the industrial elegance of the steamships that are being celebrated with the fleeting beauty of the steam that was their hallmark.
