This is an ongoing project in 3 buildings along W107th st in Manhattan.  The previous owner of the buildings had converted (often illegally) the apartments into dormitory style spaces, chopping them up into as small a series of rooms as possible to maximize occupancy.  As apartments become vacant we look at their current condition and assess what is the best reconfiguration of each space.  Sometimes it is as simple as removing a wall or two to create the required light and air for a typical apartment.  Other times we look at combining or completely reconfiguring multiple apartments to create a more comfortable and efficient space. 

There is a constant pulling, pushing, nudging, breaking, and rebuilding going on.  Like a caterpillar becoming a butterfly, the metamorphosis of these buildings happens in stages with the insides eating themselves and becoming something new and more exciting.
