The Adams Art Gallery was an old abandoned church when we took over the defunct non-profit that had been running it until the early ‘90s. SInce then it had suffered significant water damage and other neglect. After extensive repairs, including removing all the rotted interiors ourselves, and reconnecting the building to city services like heating, water, and electricity, we were able to start thinking about the future of the space.
The goal was to turn this building into a community center and arts space that would have a regional impact and bring in arts from as far as Toronto, Pittsburgh, and hopefully New York City. We put together a five year plan, with performance, fundraising, attendance, and rehabilitation goals. Working with all interested parties we were able to secure grants, donations, and volunteers to achieve a good measure of success in our first year. The following year, we were able to expand our programming, bringing in artists and events from the expanded region. .
