Sonderive was a 4 day design build workshop in Brooklyn that augmented the outdoor space of Lot Radio.  We gave the participants the following prompts to guide the design process: 

What is your soundscape?  Is it ambient or curated? Is your music a soundtrack for your environment, or a way to retreat into your own space? Are the sounds of the city and nature a harmony or a cacophony?

As the design moves from the abstract and digital and into the real, resist the temptation to lock in a design.  As sound moves through space and hits objects it starts to bounce around, refract, amplify, echoe, and dissipate.  The surface will break down into individual elements that should maintain a relationship to the whole.  Each panel will have an effect on the space and the sound as will its overall relationship to the surface.
