This landmark represents the constant impulse of a people and their culture of developing new strategies to establish a clear and well defined identity. The evident and potent industrialization of Taiwan and thought through bet for fields such as education, science, culture and art are, thus, the main analysis and conceptual elements driving the concept of this project.
The tower, as well as the urban open space, generates hybrid spaces where the limits between the public and private realms are faded in an attempt to concentrate and integrate diversity. Through this project, at multiple scales, we are exploring modifying traditional spatial hierarchies as a way of re-interpretation of the Taiwanese historical search for acceptance and integration of the heterogeneous.
The tower as an urban element has been, over time, a powerful and convincing figure. In this case the tower is not only a symbol of the economic strength and success of a state and a city, but as a gesture of ascension and transparency represents the complex cultural reality of the site and the social aims and concerns of a whole country.
