The RETICULAR NETWORK exists within the body to hold organs together. It is a fine meshwork that works both as a stabilizing structure and an organizing feature. In our proposal we use this principle to bring together the various programs of the site. The goal of this proposal is to foster that new energy by creating a structure that mixes and matches the energies that are present in the city at any time. The program pushes together multiple uses, rather than segregating them into different parts of the city. Our RETICULAR NETWORK holds these differing spaces together and connects them in an active way.
Our explorations of Cellular Automata follow on the biological parallels setup by the RETICULAR NETWORK. The resulting system breaks up unified space, pixelating an already mixed use development. These pockets of public space work to integrate the uses of the site not only spatially but also socially, giving people somewhere to gather and enjoy the city. The reticular network creates the space in which the body public can grow and activate the city around it.
